I gotcha.

That "other" thread here at this forum is old, stale, with nothing new since CEDIA.

But CES 2009 starts in a few days. And there will be news of some sort, whether the same old spiel, a progress report, or mebbe if we're lucky even more than that.

I'm on vacation in Maui with my family and skipping CES this year. But other Theta luvers will be there. So let us know what you find out at CES 2009,

True.....(Pre-DTS MA and Dolby TRUE HD)....

Seriously, hopefully you guys get some good news like the Meridian guys did. That said, the proposed Theta solution, if ever released, is certainly a better one than the Meridian guys got. LPCM, separate box.... Likely HDMI 1.1 / 1.2.

We'll see... I'm surprised there hasn't been any postings yet..

And why do you think it is likely that the Meridian solution is not 1.3?
If they're passing lpcm, why bother? It very well could be 1.3. It better be for what I'm sure will be a pricey switcher. But I'm surprised they didn't advertise it as such. I'm sure it will be known this week.
I spoke with Theta today and they anticipate shipping the HDMI card in "Summer 2009" which is either late 2Q or early 3Q 2009.

Meridian has stated they will ship in 1Q2009.
Any details on the design and capabilities John?

Well, at least you've gone from "likely HDMI 1.1 / 1.2" to "well could be 1.3". We'll know soon enough for certain.

Was there any news on the Theta Valis surround processor?

Why HDMI 1.1/1.2?

Just because they aren't presently doing decoding inside the unit doesn't mean they are using HDMI 1.1 / 1.2 silicon.

My guess is that the software isn't ready yet to handle the bitstreams for DTS-HD and DTS-HD Master Audio.

DTS-HD Master Audio decoding has been difficult to get into products. It's only in the last few months that its hitting the market with significant penetration for decoding.

Are you discussing players or processors here? My Integra has been able to decode DTS-HD MA for almost 2 years.

Yes... but the Interga is a whole new piece designed to be HDIM 1.3... THe conversation is about how manufacturers are retrofitting the higher end products e.g. Meridian, Theta, Lexicon.... Meridian has elected to use LPCM.

Which I fully understand. However, the quote I was referrencing says

I was just making the point that this decoding software has been available longer than a few months. Bizarre the companies like Denon and Onkyo would be considering cutting-edge in this conversation
