WFOR is broadcasting a monstrous 14" x 8" bug with no programming.

WFLX has changed their bright, annoying half bug to a washed-out, annoying half bug:

X 29

F L X

gital

WPBF has changed their transluscent bug to burn-in, fire engine red.

It's a local contest on who can produce the most objectionable bug.

It appears that we have to call in the Orkin man.

The WFLX bug used to look like it does to Hardrock on my set but now it looks like this:

:FOX29
VFLX
Digital

They moved it closer to the safe title area but it's still getting cut off on most monitors. It does look less bright but I still can't watch the station when that thing's on.

I wish all the stations broadcasting in 720p and 1080i would redesign their station logos (make them a lot more transparent and much smaller), and stretch ALL of their 4:3 programming (so we can use our STB's gray bars to prevent burn-in).

It was stupid of manufacturers to market 4:3 HDTV's in the first place when they knew all along that the 720p and 1080i formats were 16:9. I realize the bulk of programming in this country is still 4:3 NTSC, but on a 16:9 set you at least have options for viewing such material in the aspect ratio you prefer. I've written to our locals repeatedly about both the logos and the irritating black bars, but only WFOR ever responded; they said advertisers and viewers were complaining about the stretched images.

Logos should be transparent. Especially on digital TV where I would guess that many if not most viewers have rear projection sets or even plasma. These sets are very susceptible to burn-in. Station managers should know this. I can't believe WFLX went back to the "bug". We need to make our feelings known now by emailing the stations. Why can't they put a small transparent "WFLX -29" right above the transparent "FOX" logo on the lower right. That would be much less objectionable.
