hey all-

I'm looking for speakers to complement a 60-inch Samsung LED. This is in a basement family room where a majority of TV shows and movies are watched. The TV is wall mounted with the components located in the corner of the room.

HDMI cable is ran in the wall and ceiling and over to the receiver. I have 5.25 inch monoprice speakers in my ceiling for surround sound. I'm looking for a left, right and a center channel.

I like the look of thin wall-mountable speakers, however I 'd like to spend less than what is currently out there.

The ones I've found so far are:

KEF T301 $700/pair

KEF T301C center $399

Paradigm Millenia LP $499 each

Has anyone come across anything cheaper than these options? My other option is to do in-wall speakers but I'm not really looking forward to cutting big holes in the drywall. That feels like a very permanent decision.

I'd appreciate any advice!

Look at the JBL L820's and LC2 and L810's. They aren't exactly the same form factor as what you have but they are going to be cheaper than the prices you have above and they are decent on-wall speakers.

The JBL L820/LC2 are more than decent. imo, better than anything else listed in this thread.

At 5" thick, I doubt the JBLs qualify as "thin on-wall speakers." However, if sound quality is more important than form factor, I'm sure they're a good choice.

Personally, the only speakers of this type I've listened to were the GoldenEar SuperSats. They weren't terrible, but speakers with this design will always be a compromise in terms of sound quality (they sounded a bit thin to me compared to speakers with more traditional enclosures).

I recently installed LCR Def Tech Mythos 10 with Mythos Gem XL for my home theater system and they are amazing. I have gotten tons of compliments on the looks and sounds of them. I bought them new from a seller on Ebay for a lot less $$ than the going price.
