Looking around online, it looks like I'm going to have to spend ~$1,200 to get a new tweeter. Can anyone verify?

Thanks!

Have you tried calling the company and explaining that a tweeter went bad? Perhaps they might send you a new one. I purchased some Triangle speakers some years ago, used. I blew the tweeter in one. So I called Triangle direct. Even though I had no receipt, and admitted that I had purchased them used, they had a distributor send me a brand new tweeter, free. You never know who you will get on the other end of the phone. If you are polite and they are having a good day, who knows

Is it shattered (unfortunately diamond breaks like glass) or just quit working? Also was trauma involved? If just quit working ands no trauma then it should be a warranty issue.

Another option would be to find someone with a pair of "bad" 803's (the Nautilus are the same if I'm not mistaken and were much cheaper) with one "good" tweeter. Might be cheaper than a tweeter replacement.

There's no way the OP can do this. The D in the 803D means it has the diamond tweeter which didn't exist in the Nautilus line.

Oh, it's definitely shattered. There's a tiny piece missing in the center with two cracks running to the edge of the dome. There doesn't seem to be any trauma to the outer cashing or the grill, so I have *no* idea how it happened. A piece of me died last night when I discovered the crack

Strangely enough, the tweeter still works, although I have no idea what fidelity I've lost.

1. Contact your dealer! Believe it or not, they want your continued financial support! I was at my dealer's buying my 804s a few years ago and they were repairing some dude's 802d where the tweeters got fried during Karaoke. The dealer's fixed the tweeter free of charge but warned the guy that if he continued to plug a karaoke machine into the speakers, they wouldn't fix it the next time for free.

2. If you didn't buy from a dealer, contact B&W by phone. Tell them what you did (if you did anything) or did not do, what you see, and etc. They will be most able to offer you a quote on a replacement tweeter.

Gotcha I didn't know what the difference was, they just 'looked' identical so I assumed (apparently not a good thing to do) that they were the same. Thanks for the correction.
