Currently, the only real alternative to the Slinke might be the Ocelot.
The advantage of the Ocelot over the SLinke is that it will store the information and be available even when the computer is off.
The main disadvantage is that I didn't personally feel it was as easy to work with and took longer to send data to the unit.
I was up and running with the Slinke in a matter of minutes.
The advantages to the Slinke are that it's quick and easy, has DCOM support - so you can use it on webtablets and other networked computers, native support is builtin to MainLobby, you can learn IR commands, there are a lot of other users who have experience with it.
Of course the USB-UIRT is another alternative. We're working on support for this natively within MainLobby 3.
