Hi there,

I am thinking of getting rid of my SVS PB13 ultra and go DIY. I want a sub that is alot better with music. I don't want something that is going to be ugly so it would need to be properly finished. I would like to stick with a cube or dual driver sealed sub.

How far would I have to go to get a much better sub than the PB13.

Any advice would be appreciated.

cheers

What's wrong with your PB13 with music? I suspect your issue is really one of the following:

1) Poor sub/mains integration. How big are your mains? How did you set crossover and relative levels?

2) Inadequate experimentation with the foam plugs on the PB13 to get the best low-end for your room.

3) Poor in-room frequency response. That means you need multiple subs placed around the room, and possibly EQ. You could DIY them. Fortunately, they needn't be nearly as big as the hulking PB13.

Not that you can't do better DIY (you can, but the cost savings over the PB13 won't be substantial) but so much depends on the system around the sub.
