What kind of SPL peaks are you getting with 9 subs and 27,000 watts? Also, what subs are you running?
I'm running a mismash of different subs, as I kept on to the older ones that still had value.
My overall motto, and the most important thing to know about me, is that I'm an absolute Sound-Quality fanatic, I will sacrifice any 'other' parameter to obtain that first if I feel unhappy with the results what-so-ever; sometimes even cost (within the reach of my middle-class income, that is).
With that said, I will have to tell my story behind it first so that it makes some sort of sense for the state I'm in and the directions I took.
Way back when, I started with a Velodyne CT 10, then a CHT-15, and then their high-end servo class-D line; equivalent to what the SC1250 amp now is.
Then I upgraded to a single SDX-15, and sold the Velodyne stuff. I then bought another SDX-15.
After which, I was looking for even more beastly bass, so I bought 8 Mal-X 18's and built two 16cubic ft boxes, I didn't like their lack of upper bass, I then wanted even more bass so I bought a pair of Mal-X 21's.
They were all part of the "bad batch" and eventually succumbed to failure.
That then led me to buy an LMS-18 (which is the best sub I've ever used I might add, although expensive).
Eventually I repaired the 21's myself. Still unsatisfied with the upper bass weakness in my system I decided to build a quad array of Dayton Pro 18's. I'm now happy with the upper bass. (You can 'almost' never have too much low end.)
Unfortunately all that led me to skimp out on the amps.
Believe it or not, most of the power is going to the speakers rather than subs (it's a SQ thing). I'm workin' on the situation...
I'm looking to pull the trigger on 1 or more FP14k clones to get these subs more power, but first I need to get me a DCX in order to do it proper.
My room is L-shaped, unloading to a 40ft hallway, at the L, with tonnes of windows and a french-door, which IMO is the worst possible thing one can have to induce high SPL,
it seems to cause what I feel is a 20db+ dip at the LP throughout the entinre bass region.
This much cone would normally rip a house apart and nearly deafen all that dare enter. Your mileage may vary.
It's still fairly loud though, most commercial movie theater are designed for 105db peaks; if the movie demanded it (which I haven't seen one that does yet) my system can squeak out ~115db continuous 20 to 20k for the entire film length with +10db peaks; which would make for very tired ears after 30-60mins, most "average joe's / guest's" consider 95db-A of treble about the top of their comfort zone, beyond which they tend to complain IMO, and for good reason.
