So I'm currently running a Sonos ZP120 with some DefTech SM350s in the bedroom.

I have a Pro-Ject Debut III that I've been having hum issues with in my main theater running it through their PhonoBoxII into my Pioneer Elite receiver.

I've decided come Christmas time, to move the current bedroom setup upstairs. I am planning on the Marantz PM-5004 2-Channel amp (with a phono stage), a Sonos ZP90, the DebutIII, and a pair of B&W 685s.

The only part I'm a little iffy on is the power to the 685s, it looks like the Marantz supports bi-amping which should work with 685s.

Input?

Thanks,

Tim

i would also consider the marantz pm8004 , i have seen the 5004 combo tripped into protection mode while pushing CM9's one to many times

685s are not that hard to drive (easier than CM9). But 5004 is rated at 35W only. B&W likes more power. I recommend at least 80W amp for them.

I am limited on my selection of amps, and after listening last night between the CM line of bookshelves and the 6-series bookshelves, the 88db sensitivity of the 685 over the 84db of the CM1 and 686 is very noticeable and I think would work well with the 5004. For now it will only be in the bedroom so it doesn't need to be too loud. I have heard of users pairing a ZP120 @ 55wpc with 685s with good results. I could do that, but I really want the phono stage of the 5004 and possible A/B speakers for the bathroom.

I have had trouble finding anyone else out there with personal insight on the 5004 and the speakers they run with it so I'll most likely start a new thread titles towards that.
