I've got a chance to buy some brand new Bowers and Wilkins 684 floorstanders for 300 each. Does anyone have any experience with the 684'S? I run the Bowers and Wilkins 685's as mains in my bedroom and have their mm1 pc speakers. I hated their subwoofer when I bought it and returned it. The same with their p5 headphoens. Just not that great imo. Yet the 685's and mm1 speakers are great. So it's like a mixed bag of tricks with Bowers and Wilkins. Any info on it would be great. Thanks.

The 685 and 683 are the stars of the B&W 600 series. The 684 doesn't offer much over the 685 IMHO but higher output and slightly more low end. However, a new pair for $300 is a steal considering MSRP is $1100. Any chance you can listen to them?

I actually prefer the 685s over the 684s.

I'm in a small townhouse. I would love to get the 683's but the price difference and the trouble I would get into from the neighbors are probably not worth it. Since I can get the pair for less than a pair of 685's, I think I will go ahead.

I use the 684's up front and the 685's for the rear, with a pb1000 for the low end. I swap the speakers quite a bit cause I like how the bookshelves look up front and I think by having a front port makes them easier to place closer to the wall. The 684's and the 685's sound very similar, especially when running with the sub. Without the sub I'd give the 684's the slight edge, they can go down lower and can handle more power. If you like your 685's you'll like the 684's and that's a great price, I say go for it.

Just noticed they updated the 600 series. May want to take that into consideration, still seems like a pretty good price though.

The 684 is overpriced normally compared to some excellent PSB and KEF and Focal speakers.


At that price, however, you can't go wrong unless there is something wrong with them.


Have they been used as dealer demo speakers?


Will they come with full new warranty from the manufacturer?


One of the very best subwoofers IMO is the NHT B12D; I use it and love it.

so I decided to pass on them for now. My wife was crazy about smaller speakers, as she already bought me the andrew jones SP-FS52 pioneer speakers. These are being used in my man cave as the 685's are in the bedroom. So I got some Martin Logan motion 4's. Since it's a small speaker and hooked it up with my hsu sub. These speakers sound like crap to me. The andrew jones speakers sound better imo and i'm about to take them back. May just wait for the new series of 685 speakers to come out.
