Thoughts on the Panasonic TC-P60ST30?

So I ended up getting the Onkyo Receiver TX-NR809 and am now looking for a TV. I thought the picture quality of the Panasonic TC-P42ST30 looked impressive and figured that the P60ST30 should be comparable.

I was also looking at the 60S30, mind you though that the TVs will strictly be used for gaming and movies (and 3D is a feature i don't care too much about). It'll be mounted in the basement so there are no windows or bright lighting. Pretty much used in a dark room.

How would you compare it to the Samsung PN59D7000?

Would love to hear from you guys since I am deciding to pull the trigger in the next 3-4 days.

Looking to get a 55"-60" TV...gaming and movies only! Thanks!

Would be worthwhile to read some of the reviews on each of the sets, but - fwiw - consensus is that the ST30 series provides a much better PQ than the S30.

OTOH, have seen some remarkably cheap prices on the S30 / S34 (Costco), so if pricing is a major consideration....
60ST30 is a great TV, I got mine about a month ago now. The only reason I picked it over the Samsung was because it had a better deal at the time. Both are great TVs so really you cant go wrong. Even though you don't care about 3D once you try it you might change your mind and then the samsung's $50 glasses are a great deal. My TV came with the avatar bundle and my wife and I were blown away by how good it looked and we have even played a few games in 3D and were impressed. Now I want to get two more glasses for guests but Panasonics are kind of pricey in comparison. Oh and I would not even consider the S30, it is definitely lower end.
While the S30 is ok for what it is, I have compared it with the ST30 in three or four different stores and it's quite dramatic how much lower the black level is on the ST30. The S30 isn't even on my radar for this reason alone. I would recommend the ST30 for the improved black level, if not also for the fact that it has other features, like anti-reflective screen, and 3D capability.
Thanks for the response guys.

The 60" ST30 it is. Is Abe's of Maine an authorized reseller for panasonic? They say they are but when I go to panasonic's website, their name doesn't come up.

I am not too big on the 3D and don't care to spend $$$ on 4 sets of glasses + the additional cost of buying 3D blu rays...but the additional features and better panel are definitely worth spending the extra $300 for.

Maybe 2-3 years from now 3D may be a lot more feasible, and mainstream, who knows.

PS I would love to get the GT30 but it falls out of my price range when you consider a new TV stand + wall mount + professional installation in a cement wall. That adds up to another $400-$500 easy.

If budget is constraining you, have no fear of the ST30. I myself am seriously considering going for the ST30 despite my desire to always get the middle or top. I suppose you could think of the ST30 as upper middle....

While 3D is not a mainstream interest of mine, it is fun and you will appreciate it. Think of it a sparkling extra bonus.
