I have a useable distance of about 8', maybe 9', due to room constrictions - damn support column is in the way, otherwise the projector would be 15' back. Is this too close for a 9' diagonal 4:3 screen? I'm considering an entry level lcd projector.

From what I understand, each company's projectors may have different minimum throw distances (for a given screen size), but I'm starting to think that my maximum 8-9' distance is too close for the screen size that I'm shooting for.

Any comments?

Thanks.

Go to projectorcentral.com. You will find throw distance info on a number of projectors. But from my own experience I am afraid that you will have to settle for less screen width from that close on most projectors. OTOH, even a six-foot wide image viewed from ten feet or so looks pretty impressive.
