TI's new 2K chip has 2048 x 1080 pixels, I have only heard them talking about the 3-Chip DLP using the 2K chip. So why don't they bring the 2K chip to consumers? A 2K chip RPTV may be able to compeat well with the new 1080p LCOS Sets.
Go read the thread in the Special Guests forum with Pete Broas, TI DLP Home Entertainment marketing manager. He talks about TI's plans an motivations. Anyone else's answer would be pure speculation not worth the paper it is written on.
BTW, your question assumes that the 1080 LCOS sets can compete with the 720P DLP, and some would say that is not the case.
