I have a Samsung HL-S7646S and I have 6000+ hrs. on the original lamp. I believe the picture has lost some brightness, but not a whole lot. The thing I am really starting to notice now is when watching movies on DVD, any time there are dark areas/shadows in the scenes, I get a lot of pixellation that moves around in the dark areas. I am wondering if this is a sign that the lamp is starting to go? The bright areas of the scenes look fine. I have a spare lamp waiting in the wings, but I thought I would ask here before I install the new one. Should I just install the new one, or wait until the lamp actually goes out? Thanks in advance!

Here's a great rule of thumb: If YOU are starting to notice a lack of video quality, it's time for a new lamp. See if you can get a deal on two. If it saves you money, do it. You know you'll eventually need another one.

I call them pixels (not sure if that is the proper term), but they aren't on the whole screen, only in the dark or shadowy areas. They look like black blocky masses that move around in the dark areas of of the picture as the scenes change. They are only in the shadowy areas. If it is a daylight scene with little or no shadows, the picture looks fine. I bought the TV in January 2007 so it's a little over 2 1/2 years old and as previously mentioned this is the original lamp with just over 6000 hours of viewing on it.
