What a great resource!

As usual, after upgrading our HDTV to the Panasonic TC P60ST60  it was time to upgrade speakers and I followed  the strong advice on this forum and was finally able to replace my old acoustimass stuff with some great Mythos units which is now leading to an interest in replacing my receiver which is the quite decent albeit,5 year old Pioneer VSX 1018AH-K.

It is still doing a fine job but of course it lacks 3D, some connections, features etc.

I do not really need a lot of the network, airplay features but am thinking that the sound quality could be even better on a newer unit.

Looking for recommendations for potential candidates in the $500-700 range that have 3d, 7.1 and decent power for a 250sf space.

Thanks for your help.

The pioneer 1018 is actually a pretty decent receiver. It is well built and has plenty of power.

Yes it lacks networking and 3D and only has 3 HDMI inputs but it does have TrueHD and DTS-MA decoding plus a nice video upscaler. The Advanced MCACC room calibration software is pretty good too.

If you're happy with Pioneer maybe look at one of the SC series receivers with the Class D amps.

Unless you really need the 3D feature, I don't think you'll get any upgrade in sound in the $500-$700 range - you're already right in the thick of that level. TBH, I think amps have got a little weaker in the last few years as manufacturers spend more of the cost of the box on networking and room correction software, and less on delivering power. If you have enough HDMI inputs to cover your components, I'd stay with what you have.
