Hi Karnis and all:

___Given they hardly perform a purpose lately, what do you think about removing the ability to create poll threads in the HT Computer forums altogether?

___I am looking for input from the many members that have been actively participating in the AVScience forums with high post counts or long registration time frames in particular … If the answer is what I suspect, maybe I could convince David to remove the ability?

___Thanks in advance to all that would respond …

i would agree that most of the polls are fairly worthless and its probably an uneccessary feature. no argument from me if the plug is pulled.

perhaps they could be restricted to a "Poll Forum" where they can live in infamy ;)

Why do people hate polls so much? I think they are fine.

Like other dumb posts, you don't have to read or vote in a dumb poll.

Keep'em.

I don't think the polls serve any usefull purpose (in this forum at least). And they seem to be negitive as well.

I don't think David should be bothered to remove features form the boards though.

I say we keep um but let people know when too much is too much as in the recent DVD Software player poll.

BTW, Which is the best software DVD player?:p :p :p

Wayne (xcel),

I think the idea of having a polling feature available to us is good - there are times when it's useful. But like any other tool, this one can be misused and like you mentioned, it has been misused a lot in the HTPC forum recently.

Though I don't think that mis-use by some should mean the complete removal of the feature for everyone. Mis-use should be treated like any other off-topic or trolling thread: The poll should be yanked by the moderators with a warning to the original poster.

Just my 2 cents....

I like the idea of moving the polls to their own section. Then people who like that sort of thing could get all "polled out" to their heart's content, while those of us who don't care for them won't be tempted to get into a slugfest when they get rubbed in our faces :)

Most of the polls seem to fit into one of two categories-those with just-about-obvious answers in this group (like "which is better, widescreen or pan-and-scan?"), or those that nearly start fights (the politics/religion/chipset type). Either way, I say leave them available, and we can ignore them if we don't like them. This poll got read by a lot of the big AVS Forum names, didn't it? :)

Hi All:

___By the looks of the responses, I guess my thoughts were possibly a bit off track … (that couldn’t happen, could it?) :D In any case, I won’t bother David with it and will let the polls fly as is with a moderator note or similar if one were to get out of hand. That hasn’t happened in the recent past either … Yeaahhh right ;)

___Good Luck to you all and thanks for the feedback. I need a little coaching every once in a while myself.
