Hi everyone...

Just in case you thought I had forgotten, nope, just got the lead out of my tail to take care of business.

I bought a Panasonic Showstopper Replay TV from Jeff.

The unit was advertised as an upgraded DVR with a capacity of 170 hrs.

I'm happy to say I received the unit and have been using it for the last 2-3 weeks. Have even managed to get the wife to use it.

The wifes feedback: "I like it."

My feedback:

Works well

Does have a 170 hr record capacity (extened mode of course)

Does include 2 hard drives, as I had expected.

I am also happy with the unit.

I'll be looking for another, likely a 5000 series model in the not to distant future.

One of the main issues, as I recall, was the unit having 2 drives and that some felt the ad was mis-leading. Fortunately, I knew that upfront and though having all on one drive would be nice, the usint works very well with both installed.

To this end, there was also a concern about heat production.

Jeff nicely installed a supplamental fan with a switch turn it on & off at will.

I leave the extra fan on all the time. 1, it does not produce that much noice to be a distraction and 2, I feel the extra heat disapation is needed.

I am unable to locate my own temprature probe to provide some reading, but the unit is rather warm. I can leave my hand on the case and it not get burned so the surface temp is less than 110 degrees. Jeff did offer me the use of his temp probe to verify readings. No need to take him up on that.

I placed the unit in the exactplace I had planned. It's out in the open. Should I place it in an exclosed area in the future, I feel I'll need to take extra precautions to insure it receives adequate ventilation.

When all is said and done, I am happy with the purchase and would buy from Jeff again. I don't feel I wasted my money, and that's the bottom line.

Dave,

First of all, welcome.

We are glad you (and the wife) are happy with your acquisition. I am glad to see that the seller did include the additional fan to help you get the air moving through the unit.

I hope you understand that most of the negative comments in the original thread were aimed at the seller's misleading statements, some of which he corrected, some he didn't, and then his attitude after that.

We want everyone to have as positive an experience with the Replay as possible.

Thanks reedg01...

I did read the entire thread and was aware. I understand why some folks came down on Jeff harshly.... fortunately, I was going into this with eyes wide open. That was one of the rasons I wanted to leave some feedback about the DVR I bought.

Have a fair bit of experience with electronics, have been doing the computer thing since the late 80's and have also been been burned before buying stuff on-line, going back to the for-sale echos on FIDOnet. For those that remember the BBS scene and FIDO, ya know what I'm taking about.

I do try and take all I read with a grain of salt, from both sides.

I was pointed to the AVS forum via a concerned member, thinking I was gonan get taken for a ride. Gladly, that didn't happen. And just as glad to have another source for information.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I appreciate it.
