Hi,

Does anybody know if the 40XBR-800 TV set accepts progressive scan signals from an standalone DVD player in either of its two component video inputs (5 & 6)? Will greatly appreciate a reply!. Thanks... :)

I thought so for if it is able to do HD level playback via those two component video inputs (like the DVI input does) then it has to accept 480p or progressive scan signals.

What prompted me to ask is that I connected a Skyworth DVD player (one of them Chinese made thingys), a machine that outputs analog RGB (via D-15 interface, which the 4-XBR-800 doesn't have, of course!), both 480i and 480p component video, S-VHS, and composite connections in addition to optical and coax digital sound output jacks and been able to do both NTSC and PAL standard resolution video systems as well.

I tried the 480p output first and got a really screwy looking image (as if it was out of sync). I then connected it via 480i component video and it works OK, except that one of the cables must be faulty as am only seeing a bluish-greenish tinted image (will change them later), so the red channel must be bad.

For the time being I also have a Mobitsu 880 DVD player connected to the Sony set via component video (input #6) set to up-convert to the 1080i level and it works perfectly, so I know that input works correctly (not that input #5 may not work with progressive scan signals, is just that I haven't tried it with the Mobitsu player).

Thank you for the info, but further comments will be highly welcomed!... :)
