I am considering adding a small sub to my home theater. My room is only 250 square feet. I have never been a big fan of a lot of bass in my audio listening experience. Are there other advantages other than creating a more pronounced "thumping" to adding a sub woofer? I am trying to find a used Wharfedale WH-S8, or WH-S10. These sub woofers were matched with the WH-2 center and surrounds but all are discontinued now and difficult to find.

+1..... There is no reason that a sub has to "match" the other speakers. SVS SB2000 would be a great choice.

Hey fellow mid-westerner! Take a little road trip to Rapid City and I'll show you some "thumping".

Seriously though, subs shouldn't "thump", they should provide nice, smooth bass that fills out your low end - with the occasional kick in the chest.
