There is no mention of HD on CBS's site and TitanTV also has no indication of HD. My guess would be no, unfortunately. The good news is that those of us that get the east coast feeds now can watch it live on the west coast.

Just curious, why a tape delay on a Sunday awards show? It's not like people can't get to their TV at 5pm PDT on that day. BTW, is KCBS-TV likely to give waivers for WCBS-TV since they are both owned by Viacom? NY an LA stations are pretty much sister stations with the same channel number for CBS, NBC, and ABC.

I never understood that either. The only awards show that is broadcast live on the west coast is the Oscars. They did that even when it was on Monday, so most people who needed to watch it had to be home by 5. Obviously this was in the Dark Ages (before TiVo).

I called D*TV and asked for waivers for all the channels. I did this when I first got service 4 years ago and got ABC. I tried again when they started carrying CBS in HD. I asked them to submit waivers for all the networks except ABC and I got CBS. If only I could get Fox & NBC I'd be happy. The WB would be nice too.

And the reason you gave for these requests?

nope... no reason needed. they submit the request to the networks. if the networks respond yes, you get it. If they don't respond at all after 60 days, you get it. If they say no, you're out of luck.

All you have to do is call and request that they submit waivers for you for distant locals.

PJO1966, I'd be surprised that the LA stations here would be hesitant to approving distant net waivers since half of the distant net channels on D* (1/4 on E*) are LA channels. FYI, the WB is not part of the distant nets, same with UPN, so don't expect WPIX or WWOR from the tri-state area. Those are probably on spot-beams anyways.

As for CBS HD on D* and E*, if you're local station is a CBS O&O, then the HD feeds are granted, no questions asked, but you only get one of the two (WCBS-DT/KCBS-DT).

Another thing, waivers are not requested to the networks, only the local station that carries them, although technically, all our stations in LA are network owned (sans UPN).

Actually you are incorrect. I have both NYC & LA CBS channels in HD & SD. I also have both NYC & LA ABC channels in SD. They seem to be the only two channels that are either willing to approve waivers or are too lazy to reply to the request. Either way, those are the only ones I have.

I checked with DirecTV's listings on the HD TiVo, and the Tony's are not listed as HD. The CBS site listed above didn't seem to specific either. Also, Titantv.com is still showing it as SD.

Anything on the CBS HDTV schedule with the light background is HDTV.

Of course the site can be wrong, but it is indicating HD for the Tonys

Did you have to pay extra for the CBS East feeds?

The Tony Awards will NOT be in HD this year. We are producing the graphics for the show...in 4x3 SD.

That doesn't always mean that the broadcast will not have a HD feed.

Maybe it will be in SD, maybe not. I don't think the Tony's was in HD last year, but then, we didn't know that American Idol was in 16:9 until FOX surprised us on the finale. Right now, only two awards show has been in HD, The Grammy's on CBS (not live in the west coast), and The Academy Awards on ABC (live coast to coast).

NBC has yet to do an awards show in HD, and FOX had the Billboards Awards in 16:9 last December, along with the trash talk from Nicole Richie (on the east coast).
