Found and ordered a LN52A650 listed on amazon for $960 with a description of "Used - Like New". That description is explained below from Amazon help section. Shipping was only like $57. It is not fulfilled by amazon but it is covered by them under the A-Z guarantee. The seller also has great feedback. Is this still too good to be true? Should I take a chance at that price? Its very tempting. I may be getting my hopes as I find it interesting that it is still listed by this seller as available after I have made the order. How many could they have? lol There has gotta be dead pixels or something is my guess.

Like New: An apparently untouched electronics item in perfect condition. The original plastic wrap may be missing, but the original packaging is intact. There are absolutely no signs of wear. Suitable for presenting as a gift.

They dont give many details about it. Is there a way to contact seller for specifics? Could be a misprint or mistake. In my opinion that is a great bargain unless there are undisclosed issues. Let us know how it turns out.

I saw one of these deals and inquired. It was the petfood company - I still don't know why they were selling a TV.

He was very anxious to do a deal and said the TV would ship airmail from Italy. He tried to assure me it was a US model with warranty.

Still, I was too skeptical and still looking for a good deal on a nice TV....

Umm... wasn't Topper the guy who was going on and on in another thread last week about how much he *hated* LCD, and loved plasma? Why then would he buy another LCD set?

He also claims to have already had the set in question:

TopperMcFly: I have had the 52W4100 and the have the LN52A650 and I have some serious issues with them.

1.Turning on the 120hz Motion flow/equiv at all on either of these sets creates the much talked about "soap opera effect". As far as I am concerned, this effect rips the intended experience away from the film even on low.

2. The ghosting and lag on these sets makes me sea sick. I do not understand how all of these videophiles find this in any way acceptable. This blur is realy bad with amp on medium or high or off. Low is not too bad but depends on content.

...IMO LCD blows chunks. Please give me a reason to jump ship. And BTW the samsung is a dust magent from hell. My 42PX50U NEVER needed dusting. It didnot have a rediculous huge gloss bezel.

And, in another post:

Topper: PN50A650 or 800U to replace this gheto LN52A650?

So after another night of motion sickness and soap operas, I am bringing this disapointing heap back to CC.

So... what's that all about? Why would anyone re-buy a set they'd already had and hated?

Only thing I can think of is that he's buying as a gift for someone else, but why would you foist a set you felt was so awful on family or friends?

Are you that bored that you scan boards to try and call people out? The receipt shows one LN52A650 being credited and the purchase of a 50" panny plasma and its dated yesterday.

Now, I got the plasma home and found it had serious motion issues as well. But I didn't even have time to post that experience before a wounded LCD fan found a possible chance to avenge his coveted faulty technology. Granted, my comments regarding the A650 were a little extreme, but guess what?.... it's called venting. It happens... get over it dude.

At any rate, it became a toss up for me, and at a possible $1000 off I will take the A650 all day long. With that said, I also found that the deal yesterday was in fact a scam and Amazon has already credited my account. No surprise there. It doesnt hurt to try as long as your covered, does it? And as you can also see, I have a new receipt form BB from today for $1999 for the LN52A650.

I don't want to be a pr!ck but I honestly find both techonologies fairly pathetic, plus I can't stand cut and past e-police. The LN52A650 is IMO a temporary soultion untill a worthy technology steps up.

It's clear to me that at 50"+ sets from either camp have serious isssues with motion in general. I based my earlier plasma comments on a much smaller 42". I assume the smaller screen size hid much of the motion issues and the PQ would be tighter for the same reason. I am simply posting my experiences so that people in my shoes can save some frustration. If that's a crime, grab the cuffs there Matt Lock.

I honestly have not considered DLP and I am not sure I have a good reason other than the fact that, and correct me if I am wrong, I can't wall mount DLP above my fireplace. Is DLP much better with the motion issues mentioned?

Thanks

No, unfortunately you would not be able to wall mount a DLP, but they are in larger sizes at lower prices, and you may find the LED based DLP sets more to your liking for motion handling. They might be worth checking out at your local stores.

A few months ago or so I bought that exact same set, used from amazon, the vender, I don't remember who they were. But I was SHOCKED BEYOND BELIEF at the price! I don't remember what it was either, but the whole time I was debating on wether to buy it, seller had alot of good reviews about them, a couple of bad ones here and there. I took my chances and PULLED THE TRIGGER DAMNIT on that TV! Afterwards I spent the whole rest of the night, unable to sleep cuz I was so paranoid about this set. "Did I get ripped off?" "How in the hell can they sell such a nice set for so low?" ETC ETC ETC...

Anyways, a day or so later, the transaction was cancelled by the seller unfortunately. I guess they came to their senses and realized what a deal they were giving away that set for! Not sure how that happened, but anyways, I didn't get that set.

You can wall mount a DLP tv. Not in the traditional sense like a flat panel. But they have gotten so thin that and light that it's doable. In fact my fireplace has a very sturdy mantle on it that could hold my DLP just fine.

Just use the mantle, if you have 1 that is and put the TV on that if you wanted to. BTW I think putting tv's over fireplaces is retarded, alot of people would agree with me on that 1. Having to look so high up when watching tv is insane. But to each their own, some people like it that way.

On a side note, I own a 2008 Mits WD-65736 DLP set and love it. It's a 65" set. I paid about 1300 for it delivered. It's an AWESOME bang for your buck set. It handles most fast motion with ease. It's a lamp based tv just so you know.

Is there a way to complain on Amazon about specific vendors ? If so, how does one do that? This vendor is very obviously fishing for deals to be done OFF Amazon. Without going into the details, they have lots of impossibly low priced posts but are not actually orderable so you have to contact them, and then they contact of off Amazon.

BEWARE!

Nah. Just found it weird that you'd be trying to re-buy a set that you said you'd already had, and that you hated. Didn't really make any sense, so I was like, "WTF?".

"Wounded LCD fan?" LOL, bad assumption. Don't really have a dog in the LCD vs plasma fight. Again, just confused by your rather strange actions.

Get over what? You're the who wasn't making any sense.

I mean, "I really hate this set, it effing sucks... oh wait, I want to buy one now." Um... okay. Whatev.

I think you don't know what you want. Don't be embarrassed, happens all the time. Or maybe you didn't understand that neither LCD nor plasma were perfect technologies. Ok, so you're kinda new to this. But don't get all testy and pissy when you go kinda schizo and someone else goes, "WTF is all that about?".

I've seen a few sellers on Amazon doing that already. Most are from sellers with questionable ratings or have high satisfaction rating selling other stuff, such as a software company selling a ton of HDTVs out of the blues or an educational book seller suddenly pulling out 50 TVs out of nowhere and started selling them all at once.

My theory is...the accounts got hacked. That's all.

I think he knows what he wants, and he is being smart about it too. You can't really find a 52 inch with all those specs for 1k out the door...if the deal was legit (too bad it isn't.)

I know I'll jump on it even if I had a bad experience with the specific model, just because it is a helluva bargain.

Nah, he hates the set, he said that already. Maybe he wanted to get it for the super-price and then flip it. That'd actually make sense.

But that price was obviously 2 good 2 be true, and was no dice. Can't blame a guy for tryin' though.

I just posted my new issues with this second set. I'm not bashing, I'm just saying that this new set has introduced even more issues. I sat down with my wife to watch Dark Knight and was embarrassed. We are sitting there and I see the flashlighting and the screen is non-uniform. My wife says "why does it look like that?". If she saw it, it's bad. So I have not calibrated yet but I had Backlight on 2, Brightness on 45 in Movie mode with all the other illusion settings off. Then I realized that it looks like I am looking through a periscope. In some scenes, the corners were much darker than the rest of the picture. I am even thinking I got the purple haze because there are times that purple seems to go way over the top. Ill evaluate the set more in the daylight. At this point, I'm not sure how I wouldn't be a little upset with this set. It's not for lack of trying to accept this set with its failures.

Believe it or not, I actually feel you on this. Sounds like you have a bad set. But it's also possible that you're very sensitive to the shortcomings in both lcd and plasma technology.

Obviously, you should eliminate 'bad set' as a variable first. After that, if you're still unhappy, then you're a person who needs to find your baseline for what's acceptable image quality and what isn't.

Thing is, there isn't much that's significantly better. Pioneer Kuro, maybe the Sony XBR8s, maybe the Sammy A950. All quite expensive. And/or you could wait for the 2009 sets and see what that brings... 240 Hz, LED-backlit LCDs, for example. Still expensive tho'.

Or, as others have suggested, you could try DLP and see if that works for you. I myself don't love DLP's pic quality (it's good-but-not-great to me), but you might.
