Took the Plunge! Bought a Panny 42PD25U/P!!

With the recent price drops, the significant other approved the pricing which was right around $2k or so. Also, she was happy with the new Ethan Allen piece that is being discussed in another thread.

So here are a few questions from a newbie...

1.) Since I purchased the consumer model, will I need the bnc connector types for the component input? I know the commercial models require the bnc connectors....

2.) I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but just want to confirm: are there 2 functional component inputs and one DVI/HDMI input on this TV?

3.) Any specifics I should do when it arrives (regards to breaking it in)? I believe people recommend turning down the brightness...anthing else? (ie - don't watch too many programs with the black bars on the side?)

Thanks for all the good knowledge thus far...this is just the initial plasma purchase I hope to make...gonna wait till next year for the 50 and 55" models to drop a bit more...then this one is going up to the bedroom :)

I am new to this.

Did you purchase locally or via the internet?
Mike, congrats, it's a great set. I purchased one a few months back and haven't regretted it one bit (except that I missed the price drops!). To your questions:

1) You do not need bnc converters. This set has RCA component inputs.

2) Correct, you have 2 component and I HDMI input (plus 3 composite and a VGA).

3) Change picture mode from factory-default make-my-eyes-bleed Vivid to Auto. Then make other picture adjustments over that. Use AVIA or DVE for fine adjustments.

Also, when you take delivery (assuming that it's getting delivered to you), try to turn the set on and check for dead/stuck pixels with the delivery guy still there. If you see any problems, refuse delivery. Retailers have varying policies about service and returns after delivery, but your best bet is to try the set out and just refuse it if you have any problems with it.

I bought the same set last month, and I am overwhelmed at the picture quality. Be sure and turn the brightness, picture and sharpness down for the 1st 100 hours, and calibrate with Avia or DVE if available. If you are viewing SD material, the lower settings will improve the picture quality.
congrats on your set! i want the consumer model also, prices seem to be at a good spot, but arent the new series consumer pannies due in december? can anyone shed light on this?
Thanks for all the replies/info guys!!

I can barely contain my excitement at getting delivery!!

Will be sure to turn the picture mode to auto (away from vivid).
Welcome to the club. Wait til you see the OTA HD this set can give you.

Nope.

The Panasonic TH-42PD25U/P is a 6th Generation Model and equivalent to the Industrial TH-42PWD6UY.

It was actually thru an employee discount that my company has...so the prices were still lower than most online retailers which was good. Plus the fact that it is authorized direct from panny...it was a win-win for me.
