my top speed in transferring shows from my replay to my computer is 2.8 MB/s, but on a 100mbps connection shouldn't it be faster? i'm not expecting 12.5, but i would think somewhere around 6 or so would be average. what's up?

(using a 100mbps hub, can't connect replay directly to router because it's too far away, but both replay and computer are on the hub)

That's at the fast end of the range people are seeing reading from the Replay. Whether it's disk speed, network adapter, CPU bound or simply throttled at the Replay side still isn't entirely clear,.

I suspect it's CPU bound judging by how the replaytv unit acts when you are pulling from it at that rate.

All a bigger hose does is move the bottleneck somewhere else.

I'd personally be amazed if a Replay box could ever pump even 50Mbits/sec. If it could, it'd probably be because they put more CPU horsepower in the box than it really needs.
