Ok, I'm taking the plung this weekend and getting a univeral player. Here is the list of CD's from both formats that I have on my wish list. Are there any more that I NEED to add, or take off the list for lack of quality of sound?

SACD list:

Godsmack: The Other Side

John Mayer: Heavier Things

Miles Davis: Kind of Blue

Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon

Derek & The Dominos: Layla

The Police: Every Breath You Take

James Taylor: Hourglass

Rolling Stones: Let It Bleed

Elton John: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (Bonus DVD)

Albert King & Stevie Ray Vaughan: In Session

Stevie Ray Vaughan: Couldn't Stand the Weather

DVD-A list:

Eagles: Hotel California

Everclear: So Much for The Afterglow

Led Zeppelin: How The West Was Won

Pete Townshend: Another Scoop

Seal: Best: 1991-2004

I got a cheap universal player last month and only have 2 channel playback at this point, but I can highly recommend the Flaming Lips' Yoshimi DVD-A. It is packaged with the CD of the album, so it's a great deal. Can't wait to listen to the 5.1 mix. The 2 channel mix is great.

Also, Beck's Sea Change (avail on DVD-A and SACD, I think) is almost universally praised. I have the DVD-A and it's great.

I've also really enjoyed the Emmylou Harris best of DVD-A.

I've read that the DVD-A version of How The West Was Won was sub-par. I have the redbook CD and am satisfied with that.

To your SACD list, I would add The Who's Tommy (multi-channel) and The Rolling Stones' Beggars Banquet (stereo only). The Stones always get high rotation in my changer, and Tommy is fantastic for when you have time for the whole opera.

On the DVD-A list, check out Alan Parson's Project's I, Robot (stereo). I have the earlier pressing which was 24/96 and playable on regular DVD video players and love it.

Naturally my recommendations can be safely ignored if you don't enjoy those artists. :)

BMG has some SACD titles, such as the ones that i mentioned i bought. but you have to look to make sure they say SACD as they sell the same titles also in NON SACD versions as well.

plus they had a good promo this time around -- buy 1 get 2 free, then after that all CDs are 80% off the regular price.

so i ordered Layla as my purchase, got Slowhand and Elton John as my free choices then also ordered Joss Stone's latest CD at 80% off, though that one is not SACD.

Definately get Elton Johns "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" on SACD. The sound and mixing is fantastic IMHO. Skip Led Zep on DVD-A. Instead, get the Led Zep DVD. Im a huge fan of Zeppelin and I watch and listen to the DVD all the time. The DVD-A just sits there.....

Good link. I like the way they allow you to browse through just Multichannel SACD. Too bad the prices are list.

Well I went out at lunch today and got DSOTM, James Taylor: Hourglass and John Mayer: Heavier Things. I needed to get some stuff my wife would like too, and the John Mayer and JT was a safe bet. The Flyod is all me baby.

Now I just need to cut out early to set up my new Pioneer dv578 and throw in the discs and be amazed.

Where is the best place to get sacd's and dvd-a's for the lowest prices? I think this could be habit forming.

One of my favorites is Steely Dan: Gaucho. Excellent mix and SQ.

I've bought all of mine (so far) at BB. The SACD's and DVD-A's have their own section and they seem to have a (not great but) decent selection in most stores with reasonable prices.

CHECK OUT THE RCA LIVING STEREO SELECTIONS. THEY ARE NOT SURROUND BUT THEY SOUND GREAT. GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD IS GOOD, SO IS LAYLA, THE ALLMAN BROS LIVE AT THE FILLMORE AND EAT A PEACH, ALL THE STONES BUT PARTICULARLY LET IT BLEED AND BEGGARS BANQUET. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE REST OF YOU GUYS BUT I FIND MYSELF BUYING MORE SACD THAN DVD AUDIO. FOR STARTERS THE HYBRID SACD'S CAN BE PLAYED ON ANY CD PLAYER AND THE'' REGULAR' CD SURE SOUNDS BETTER THAN ANY NORMAL CD. WITH DVD YOU HAVE TO GO THRU THE MENU THING WHICH MEANS HAVING TO HAVE THE TV ON AND ITS A REAL PAIN SOMETIMES. IN DVD AUDIO TRY THE DOORS LA WOMAN OR AL GREEN'S GREATEST HITS. GOOD LUCK FINDING SOME TITLES. IN MY AREA ONLY BEST BUY HAS A DEDICATED SECTION AND ITS A MESS. TOWER RECORDS HAS A DECENT SELECTION BUT THEIR PRICES CAN RUN A LITTLE HIGHER. CD UNIVERSE IS GOOD AS IS AMUSICDIRECT. YES THEIR PRICES ARE HIGH BUT THEY SEEM TO HAVE EVERYTHING.

Please stop using ALL CAPS. It is hard to read and you are making useful contributions.
