Recently, actually, 2 days ago, I received a 57h81 for a replacement for my defective 56x81 that I replaced a 40x81 with. Follow?

Last night the convergence went out, the TV looked like a psychedelic trip. I will not have this fixed! Should I get another 57h81 or go with the Mitsu 55"?

I loved the picture on the x81 toshs, but the 57h81 did not impress me. How is the picture on the Mitsus?

It really pisses me off because I have always loved the Tosh products, I really enjoyed the previous sets I owned by Tosh, but I am developing a really bad taste in my mouth!

Any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.

I noticed that you had a ghosting problem back in March with your 56X81. I have my set in the shop for the same problem (dark ghosting on right against light background).

You said it was a capacitor problem. Could you give me anymore details? I now see that you have replaced that set. How did that happen? Was Toshiba involved? If so, you did you talk to?

It sounds like I might be in for more than a quick fix!

I would appreciate any info you can give me.

Thanks in advance

The 40x81 had a cap on the red board, easy fix. I dealt directly with Toshiba. You just have to get through to the right person at Toshiba and they will take care of you.

I wanted a bigger set, so I sold the 40 and bought a demo 56x81 for a really good price. I got home to find that the store had displayed 4:3 in torch mode, hence burnt in bars on the screen. 6 months later, they (the store), hadn't fixed this(they were replacing the guns). I argued with Corporate and they replaced it with a 57h81. The 57h81 worked for all of 10 hours, then poof.

Last night, after the set being unplugged for 12 hours, I turned it on and the convergence was back, bit the set was still bowed in on all 4 corners. I think either a power supply or convergence power supply problem. Either way , no way am I keeping it.

I looked at the Mits last night and liked it. From what the saleman was telling me, the Mits has less problems and generally is built alot better.

I know that the burn in is not a manufartures defect, but problem after problem, leaves a bad taste.

You've had some bad luck so go with a different company for your own peace of mind; however, you really should not mention the second set in this discussion since it really has nothing to do with Toshiba. It has to do with you buying a demo that was torched.

I have a modified Tosh (Runco)--if you can afford it look at the Panny PT-52DL10.

I think I'll soon grow to regret getting an RPTV that isn't capable of doing 720p...
