Just started to look into Rear Projection Units and like the looks of the Toshiba Cinema Series 53HX71 and would like to hear some opinions about this unit.

I also have a couple of questions:

1. What is the difference between the AX and HX series?

2. What does the Cinema Series give you that Theaterview series does not?

Thanks for the input.

Carl, I've sold/calibrated a couple of these and was quite impressed with the set overall. It's basically a 50HX81 in a 4:3 cabinet.

The AX model is analog - no HD capabilities whatsoever.

The 'HX' Cinema Series models have quite a few upgrades in them over the regular 'H' sets. They have better CRTs with a finer beam spot size and longer life expectancy, newly designed 6-element lenses, a 'blackstripe' screen for improved contrast, an anti-reflective coating on the screen shield, and a better built-in sound system.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I wrote the wrong number from the booklet, I meant the 50HX81, the 16:9 unit.

What other sets would be comparable?
