Toshiba 57h81 : How do I remove the screen?

1789 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  yadfgp
I've had this monster for almost 5 years now and I'm planning to upgrade soon (Samsung led dlp) but I want to clean it. I've never done this before and its got cobwebs and stuff inside. I don't want to call a pro because if I break it, its just an excuse to upgrade. I've read other topics on cleaning it once its opened, but I can't open it.

Does the silver/grey border just pop off if I pull hard enough?

Thanks.

I can't quite recall that model, but most Tv's you have to pull the speaker grill off to expose some screws along the bottom edge of the screen frame. Once the screws are out, either pull the entire assembly straight up an inch then out, or use small flathead screwdriver to pop the side edges straight out (start at the bottom) and once the side edges are loose lift assembly to release top edge out of groove.

Check out this thread starting at post 1779. It contains pics of my screen removal and instructions on how to do it and focusing and cleaning instructions down a little further. hope this helps and here's the link.

Thanks guys, I got it apart, cleaned and got it all back together and it works fine. Everything is brighter so I did a quick Avia run through and my settings changed quite a bit. There is a little dead bug inside the green gun, just laying on the bottom. No idea how he got in or how to get him out, but there's no evidence of him on screen so I'm not worried. I guess I'll wait a few more years before going to a 1080p model.

Congrats on getting your screen off!
I have a 65H81, exact same set as you of course, but just a little bit bigger. You sure you don't want to make the jump to a newer set???
I've been contemplating this move for the last year or so. With the new models coming out I'm SOOOOOOOOO tempted to pull the trigger damnit
