Last year I tried the toshiba dst3000, and any hd channel I watched was shown in letter box. Then lately I tried the sony hd200 and the samsung 160 which seem to be shown more in a square shape with 3 settings to adjust the picture and keep the characters from looking tall and thin.Am I right or wrong on this? I really like the letter box look the best.

The Hughes built STBs including those in the title have 3 modes, cropped, letterbox and full. Each has it's place depending on the input signal, output resolution and the TV type. Selectability is defeated if the input is HD and the box is set to output HD to a 16:9 set.
