Toshiba HD-A2 and Pioneer PDP-5070hd

I'm having a weird problem with an hd-a2 and 5070hd. I have the components connected via HDMI on input 6 on the pioneer. When I power on both components at the same time (using a harmony 880) or using individual remotes I'm not getting any picture on the pioneer once the hd-a2 boots up. I can hear sounds, but there is no video. To remedy the problem I switch inputs to some random imput then back to input 6. The picture shows up. I'm guessing this is being caused by the 5070hd not detecting a signal coming from input 6 since the hd-a2 has such a slow boot time. Any one else having this problem?

I opened a case with logitech to have them add a delay of 10sec before my tv switches to input 6. I may have to increase this to 20 or 30sec. I'm not certain exactly when the the hd-a2 starts sending through the hdmi connection during boot. Or at least a signal the pioneer can detect.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have this precise problem also - with same setup - I think you could add a fix command on the harmony also to switch away to 5 and then back to 6.
That pretty much what my friend said... Welcome to HDMI hell. I'm still waiting for logitech's "24 hour" response to my support request. Funny how support issues for harmony remotes went from 30min to 7days

Very wierd. I have a Pio 5050 and so not have this problem when I use my Harmony remote. Maybe you can set a delay in the command.
After spending over an hour on the phone with logitech support (most of it on hold) the issue is fixed. They had to add a 35sec delay before any commands other than power on was sent to the tv when powering up the dvd player, tv, and receiver. It now turns everything on then wait 35sec then send a change to input 6 on the 5070d (input 6 is my hdmi conn to the a2). When I end this "activity" I have the harmony set the input to 5 before powering it off. I also have the harmony sending an eject command when using the watch dvd activity. Things didn't work so well when using the watch dvd activity when all components are turned off vs leaving another activity. They best support could do was 55sec before sending the eject command. This allowed the eject command to work either way. It would be nice if they gave us more control on delays for our components or get my tech support peeps so we don't have to wait on hold forever

LOL...I'm just curious how far away the couch is from the display and devices, for you guys having trouble with HDMI, input selection, powering on, booting up the A2, and very expensive remotes to do this in sequential combination.

Here are my steps for watching an HD DVD in my A2:

1) Get off the couch, walk 10-12'

2) Power TV on (with Insight remote or my right index finger on top of display, if it's not already on.)

3) Power on HD-A2 (well before actually grabbing a movie...This time with either the Toshiba remote, or again...my right index finger on the A2.)

4) Choose HDMI input 4 on TV...(most likely with my right index finger, while standing there at the TV.)

5) Grab the stack of movies, sort through...choose one, (all while standing.)

6) Yeah! The A2 has booted up, "no disc"...(hit "open", insert disc, push "close" with right index finger again.)

7) Turn on receiver, select Video 2, crank up the volume...(again with right index finger, bent over, while standing.)

8) Last step...Grab the Toshiba remote...sit down on said couch...and enjoy all of the HD goodness that HD DVD has to offer!)

No tech support, no holding on calls, no loss of $$$.$$ on Harmony remote, no macros to input, and heck...I probably even burn a few of those calories from beer off in the process.

Ahhhh...The things we do for love of convenience! LOL!

Interesting fix. I have a 940HD panel, and have the A2 on order. Also have the 880. Curious to see if I'll run into the same problem. With the delay built in, do you have to leave the remote pointed at the equipment rack the whole time?

Does it only happen when you power them both on at the exact same time? I always turn on my TV while the A2 is powering up, and it always detects the A2 when it is ready, (I have the 5071 as well).

Yup, the remote has to be pointed at the equipment the entire time

It actually worked better with slightly less delays when powering everything up at the same time. When switching from one activity to another there were some issues and was the cause for some longer delays. I've timed the tv and dvd from boot up and was able to detect the HDMI signal from the dvd at 20sec. For some reason when I was working with logitech support I was unable to do it again. I guess my watch was ticking faster before I got on the phone

LOL!!! Yeah I was even telling the logitech support guy I have no idea why I have to have all of those working especially the eject sequence. I told him my laziness only goes so far so if I can't get the eject to work at the end of the command sequences I can live with it
. Maybe next time I will call and see if I can get the logitech programmed to control my dyson vaccum cleaner and control the microwave. It would be badass to send a command to "eject" the microwave door for me to throw in some popcorn
All this "work" so it allows me to be even more lazy haha
