IMO, steer clear of Celeron and Duron based notebooks. A co-workers Toshiba Satellite Celeron 1.2Ghz does a TERRIBLE job of playing dvds, and stutters immensly on either PowerDVD or WinDVD.
I would suggest getting something with the Mobility Radeon graphics chip. That's what my Compaq notebook has, and it does a fantastic job with only a 1GHz Pentium III. Get at least 256MB of ram (preferably DDR) and the newer portables even have digital audio out, so you can connect it to a receiver and enjoy Dolby Digital 5.1
