Very interesting article about the upcoming RD-X3 by Toshiba:
  • 160G drive
  • DVD-RAM (like HS2)
  • progressive scan (no information regarding deinterlacing chip)
  • Ghost reduction circuit
  • Digital Noise (mosquito noise) remover
  • LAN support
  • Can connect to the net and download EPG!
  • You can program it by phone or computer to record stuff remotely!

Basically, they're coming out with a few models:
  • RD-XS30 - no Internet, 60G drive
  • RD-XS40 - 120G drive + Internet
  • RD-X3 - 160G drive + Internet

Looks like it won't be all that long before my HS2 is obsolete. Oh well, it's not like I didn't expect that to happen.

Not having access to PVRs here in Canada, the timeslip is very important to me. I would only consider a +RW unit if it incorporated timeslip in the HDD portion.

Felgar,

Ditto. I'll bet you Phillips is working on it. Having been the pioneer in the TiVo units (but I don't think they made that much money on the Tivo units) I'll bet you they can make a KILLER product.

Yep, no question they have the capability. Just look how far ahead the RD-X3 will be compared to the X2. These things are progressing at an incredible rate. I just wish I could afford the luxury of multiple frequent updates. Unfortunately, I fear my 42" SD plasma and HS2 will need to suffice for a long time. I hope I can live with them in a few years' time.
