Thanks for the answer.

I wonder what satellite systems in Canada the RD-XS35's TVGOS works with.

This requires you to use the L-3 input for the satellite video input. When you set up a timer recording using the ir blaster to control a satellite STB the input always defaults to L-3.

I knew you would know.

The instruction in the XS35 users manual on how to set timer recordings are wrong (1/3 of the necessary presses are not mentioned), and the last step in the process (daily/weekly) is not even mentioned.

Here's what works on my XS35:

1) Press TV GUIDE.

TV Guide On Screen LISTINGS appears.

1A) Press MENU

Watch Now appears

1B) Press UP

'Go to Service Bar' appears

1C) Press SELECT

service bar becomes active

2A) Press LEFT twice to SCHEDULE.

3) Press Menu.

"Schedule Options" appears.

4) Press Up/Down to select "new manual recording" then press ENTER.

"Record Options" appears.

5) Press Up/Down to select "date" then press the number buttons to input

To shift the highlight, press Up/Down.

6) Press Up/Down to select "start" then press the number buttons or Left/Right for am/pm).

To shift the highlight, press Up/Down.

Also set "end" in the same manner.

7) Press Up/Down to select "channel" then press the number buttons

8) Press Up/Down to select "input" then press Left/Right to select the input.

Tuner: TV broadcast, Line 1, 2, 3: external device connected to the recorder

9) Press Up/Down to select "recorder" then press Left/Right to select the recording device

9A) Press UP/Down to select 'frequency' then press Left/Right to select Daily/Weekly/Off

10)Press ENTER.

"Record Options" is closed.

The icon appears on the TV program.

Anyone who plans to do manual recording with an XS35 (and probably XS55 as well) should buy a universal remote with the ability to do macros and replace the 9-step sequence to get to the timer screen with a single button.
