I think that unit adds the potential for money to drop out of your pocket! The same unit can be had for far less (not even counting shipping) at frys.

And i havent noticed any audio drop outs using mine.

Interesting boxes.

Would anyone know if a similar box that takes optical and goes to coax would help in my case. I have a Yamaha receiver that auto detects the audio signal on a given input & assigns priority to optical, then coax and then the RCA A/V inputs. The problem is that the optical output from my Sat receiver is always on, even when it's technically off so the auto detect never triggers to one of the other inputs. I think it stays on at a low level, but it's enough to not let the receiver switch. If I were to convert from optical to coax through one of these boxes would that also always keep the coax output on? I suspect it would but does anyone know for sure?

Or if anyone has another idea. Except going to another input on my receiver. I know I can do that, but am trying to not have too.

Thanks.

That's what I did on my Yamaha receiver - put TV into the TV/DBS analog input and the TOSLINK from my satellite receiver into the DVD input (works fine since I don't have a dedicated DVD player - I have to run cables from across the room from my PC to play DVD's - and that uses the SPIDF)

midiman makes a box called the co2 that will go toslink to coax or coax to toslink. it will split at the same time also. sells for about $59 to $69. works great, gets my sat digital music channels to my dat deck with no dropouts.

if you need to go toslink only here is an easy one to build:

Cant get a direct link, but do a search under desc for optical. you should see the same converters there, coax to optical and the optical to coax.

Its listed as 20 bucks, but if you sign up as a retailer, you get a massive discount. The price is 13 dollars if you do that. I think I had to call to create the account, all they need is a company name, no tax id or anythin like that.

This place is great for toslink cables, vg - bnc cables, usb stuff and firewire cables as well as hubs. They do whack ya with the shipping so be careful.

As for the box, it works fine for what i use it for. I use it to convert spdf from my sound card to optical for my minidisc recorder. (Digital to digital mp3 copies on very small form factor disposable media.)
