Totally unfounded speculation...Panasonic to announce AE1100 next month?

I've read on a couple other boards that Panasonic may be announcing the AE-1100 next month. Has anyone heard anything about this? Based on their previous product cycles it seems odd they that they would announce the replacement model this time of year. Their new models usually arrive around October, so would they really announce something 5 months in advance? I love my AE-700 but would definitely consider an upgrade....1080i w/ C2fine anyone???

Really? I wouldn't think so, no. I mean, there might be some leaks about it but I can't see any sort of product launch until September.
If the new Infocus PJs are effecting their sales, do you think they might try a pre-announcement strategy?

I agree that Sep. makes more sense... just a thought...
I doubt the new Infocus lines are impacting them that much. Additionally they will need some new gimmick to make people upgrade.
If the IN76 was priced the same as the AE900U then I could see Panasonic reacting by either lowering prices / offering some new incentive or pre-announcing (if the new model really is that close. I think they'll wait for a while, even they wanted to announce something for the late 3rd or 4th quarter they'd wait until the IN76 was a real threat.
I was just thinking, if the product they would hypothetically be announcing next month was a 1080i LCD (at a higher price point) it might make sense. I mean how much would a $3500 MSRP 1080i LCD model really cannibalize sales from their "lower end" AE-900? Probably not much...but it might make those who were considering purchasing a new DLP unit take pause and wait a bit before making a purchase. Anyone know the status of the 1080i LCD panels?
I would be stunned if it were a 1080 LCD in our price range.

There is no such thing as a fixed panel (LCD/DLP/LCOS) 1080i panel and nor is anyone planning to make one. They are working on 1080p panels and it is very unlikely that Panasonic is going to introduce one as soon as next month. Also, if they did somehow introduce one next month, it would be the only projector of its kind in the market and would have high demand and as such could be priced much higher without any difficulty selling out initial production batches. I would guess a 5-6K MSRP would be more like if it was introduced now. Remember Panasonic doesn't make the panels, Epson does. When there is a new panel available in volume, Sanyo, Hitachi, etc will also announce their models.

Once there is some competition, the prices would drop. The only competition now would be the Ruby - the 1080p DLPs are still priced in the stratosphere, if you can even get one. Even with lower performance compared to the Ruby, it would have an MSRP that would be fairly high.

The nice thing about 4-5 companies announcing products with the same LCD technology is that the prices tend to be more reasonable.

There are very strong hints that Sony will be displaying a new 1080P SXRD FP at CEDIA 2006 with a MSRP of around 5K. 1080P LCD projectors would likely have to be priced well under this point in order to sell. All bets are off, however, if the 1080P C2Fine LCD projectors offer superior contrast, finally solve VB issues, and have excellent built in video processing using chips from Gennum or Realta. Oh and another thing, 1080P projectors and the new high definition DVD formats really demand a BIG screen, so lets hope these projectors offer 1000 calibrated lumens rather than the piddly 300-600 lumens of their 720P counterparts.
