Toy Story 2 Special Edition

I can't wait for this one, I missed out on the Ulitmate Toy Box version a few years ago so I picked Toy Story SE back in Sept. when it came out. Toy Story 2 SE will feature a DTS Home Theatre mix which should be really incredible. Its ashame its being released a day after Christmas, I could have put it Christmas list this year.

Not me...

I already have the Ultimate Toy Box, and double dipped with the Toy Story SE. While the Toy Story SE is nice, I didn't feel it was *enough* of an improvement to warrant another double dip on Toy Story 2 SE.
I double dipped with the Toy Story SE and will double dip on Toy Story 2 SE.
Still have my $3 coupon that came with the first Toy Story SE. I'll definitely be picking this one up.
I'll be getting it. I sold my Ultimate Toy Box on Ebay for $110 about 4 months ago in anticipation of these releases. Bought Toy Story Anniversary the day it came out and will be getting this one too.
Did anybody pick up the new release of Toy Story 2 on Monday. The beginning in DTS is Incredible, no it was totally awesome.

Now they need to release a DTS version of the incredibles. I would love to hear the pod race (I mean when they chase Dash in the jungle).
As most people here know, I basically dont like kiddie movies that adults say they like, however, Toy Story was the best i saw, so i wouldnt mind see Toy Story 2 I guess. Love a good DTS track.
So, Toy Story 2 just had a 2-disc Special Edition release December 26th. I just got my copy in the mail.

I'm aware that the first Toy Story 2 release has been highly regarded as a reference DVD for PQ and sound. I was just wondering if anyone has compared the two to see if the PQ has remained faithful in this new edition. I see on the cover of the SE that it says "Enhanced Picture." This has me concerned because it may mean they screwed with the already impressive PQ.

Thanks.
I think the original mixer for the film version did the DVD mix, and that may have contributed to the quality.

Don't quote me on that though, it may have only been for Toy Story, and not 2...
I picked Toy Story 2 SE up on the 26th when it came out. All I got to say is the PQ and DTS/ES sound is phemonenal for a SD DVD. I played the DVD upconverted to 1080i on a 55" screen and it truely looked like HD
I picked up a copy and watched on the 26th, I rented the older version last year and was really impressed. The new SE in no let down. I watched it upconverted to 1080i on a 55" screen and it truely looked like an HD presentation. Colors were bright and the contrast was incredible. On top of that add the DTS track of the new SE and it can't be beat.
I bought the Toy Story SE when it came out a couple of months ago - I had never seen it and everyone raved about how great a presentation it was. Picture and sound are great, but the movie literally put me to sleep about 45 minutes in. I'm passing on TS2.
Lucky for me I won't be buying this one or any toy story movie.

I thought Toy Story 2 was better than Toy Story (1). In fact, in overall effect and entertainment value, I would have to put Toy Story 2 as the best Pixar effort yet and one of the best animated features of the last 50 years.
Saw this on television on xmas day.

Was an improvement on the first one and seemed to feature less Randy Newman ( always a good thing ) I won't be buying it even though i found it enjoyable.

Funnily enough i bought the first one expecting something really amazing because of all the hype about how good it was, i was a little disappointed.

Pixar movies are ok and i happen to think A Bugs Life is extremely good but other than that i have found them all to be overrated, i think its the CGI as i like more traditional animation, my favourite animated movies tend to be Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King etc which have broadway musical qualities ( also think Bambi is fantastic and i like classic Disney pre 1950 )

People seem to get carried away these days with great sound quality as if it can make a movie better, i was that way for several years and bought many movies i wish i hadn't just because the sound and picture quality was amazing.

It's really getting comical how the trailers even use the big, meaningless "SWOOSH...THUMP!!!" to show off the rumbling bass sounds...just to accompany the appearance of the title of the coming attraction.

"SWOOSH...THUMP!" Pride..."SWOOSH...THUMP!!" and..."SWOOSH...THUMP!!!" Prejudice..."SWOOSH...THUMP!!!!"

LOL! You would think every movie had to promise an aural experience (that's "aural") to rival a nuclear holocaust as if that would turn an end result more suitable for a Tuesday night tv afterthought into THE MOVIE EVENT OF YOUR LIFE!

People?? I think it's this entire forum personally. I've always felt this way and will always fell this way. I don't care if movie XYZ is THE benchmark in PQ and audio bass that everyone is raving about. If I don't want to see the movie for enjoyment of the movie I'm not buying it. Really why would I buy it?? Trying to impress myself with my own system???

If I did not impress myself with my own system I would have to upgrade!
I recently got a new DVD player, and I am trying to determine if an issue is a quirk with this DVD or with the player (or the combination).

The issue is that when I pop in the disc, and press Play at the Main Menu I get the Dolby 2.0 audio (the 3rd in the list) rather than the DD 5.1 audio that I would have expected it to default to.

Any thoughts?
