I've got an rg-59 cable in my master bedroom, but I can't figure out where it goes. There is a likely cable that exits the house near the telco demarc but I get nothing when I connect the receiver (which works on other jacks) in the MBR and this loose end to the dish (I have DirecTV).

Is there a way to test this cable at the demarc to see if it is in fact the same?

Is there a way to see if there are interference or quality issues that are preventing it from working with DirecTV?

Is there a way to trace the cable through the walls to see where it goes from the MBR? Sending a high-power signal and picking it up through sheetrock somehow?

Thanks!

Most electricians have cable tracers. Or, check out a local electrical supply house....some of them are not too expensive.

common piece of equipment is a telephone line tracer. puts signal on one end and a beeper on the other. you can probably borrow one from a telco person at any company.
