Has anybody successfully traded in their 4508 for a 5080? I submitted my fax, called for my RMA number and gave my credit card number back on 8/18 and so far I've been given nothing but the royal runaround. I was given 3 different numbers to call before I found somebody who confirmed that everything was in order but couldn't explain why a 5080 hadn't shipped.


I just called back again and today's excuse is that there's a shortage of 5080s right now but other units are going out fine. It sounds rather like something that comes from the rear end of a cow to me! :rolleyes: Hence my question.

I'm a seasoned vet with Customer Service, including DNNAs current team. In this particular case, I actually believe them that there is a shortage of 5080s. Why? Because they aren't nearly as popular as 5040s. Seriously.

I traded in three 4504s and a 4508. With Lyndon's help I received three 5040Bs and a 5080B. The 5040Bs work great, the 5080B has a strange electrical problem and is going back for another exchange. I suspect the 5080 was having trouble and someone else sent it back and it wasn't fixed before being sent out again.

Specifically, the power light comes on, hard disk and fan spin up and Ethernet lights come on. Then after being plugged in for about 4-5minutes the fan and power light go off, (but not the hard drive or Ethernet lights) and it takes about an hour of being unplugged before it will boot again.

Then 4-5min of being plugged in cause another shut down.

You got lucky on the 80hr unit shipping when it did. You won't be as lucky with the replacement. :)

The agent was correct. The availability on the 80hr unit is not great right now. We're going through the orders as quickly as we get units processed and ready to be shipped out. You should have been given an order # and the site where you can check status once it has shipped. If you didn't, let me know and I'll get it for you.
