Triad Speakers Kick Ass

My search for a new speaker system has ended.

I had a set of M&K 150s (S-150thx fronts, SS-150thx surrounds, and MX-150thx sub) on loan at my home for a short time, and while I was happy with their performance on movies their sound was very two-dimensional when used for 2-channel music. Furthermore, the sub did not integrate seamlessly with the fronts when used for music.

Based upon positive comments that I read on this site about Triad speakers, I jumped at the opportunity to buy a complete used Triad system consisting of Triad InRoom Gold LCR, Triad Gold InRoom Center, Triad Gold OnWall Surrounds, and a Triad Platinum PowerSub. This was really risky as I bought the system from across the continent, sight unseen, and with no previous personnel experience with Triads (there is not local dealer where I live). Am I ever glad that I took the chance. The speakers were in perfect condition, have awesome build quality, and sound superb.

The LCR and Center speakers form a seamless blend across the front, the surround speakers are non-localizable (I checked the speakers more than once to make sure they were operating), and I defy anybody to be able to tell where the subwoofer is located. The speakers are very neutral sounding. They are much more detailed than my previous speakers (Energy C-8s, AC300, and RVSSs) which were quite bright sounding. In two channel mode, the Triads also image very well, and are better than any other speakers that I have listened to (Aerial, PMC, Kef, etc.) when it comes to vocals. The subwoofer is superb. Once I had the system properly calibrated, it was impossible to localize the sub. The sub is very detailed and tuneful. The dynamics of the system are incredible. There is not a trace of compression as the volume is turned up. The other night I watched Jurassic Park in DTS at THX reference level. This is REALLY LOUD. I half expected to be hit upside the head with a flying woofer cone, but this fear was completely unfounded. There was never a trace of distortion. Normally I watch movies approximately 10 db lower than THX reference level, but my wife was out and I had a hankering to see what the system could do.

These speakers will be staying with me for a long, long, long, long time. For movies they are better in every way than the M&K system that I tried, and for music they are more detailed, neutral, and focused than my old Energy C-8s. The Triad Golds are truly a system that is equally exceptional with music as they are with movies.

Scott, glad you enjoy your speakers. My post may have been one of the ones you saw. My experience with the Triad Gold speakers has also been good. I have the in-room model Triad Gold with a second set of surrounds in the rear for EX. If you like your HT with punch and definition, this set is highly recommended. I do not have a Triad sub, and have been fiddling around with different subs to see what works best. I may end up with the platinum myself. Congratulations on your purchase.
