From blu-ray.com :

"Warner Home Video has announced that it will release 'Trick 'r Treat' on Blu-ray on October 6, day-and-date with the DVD. This horror anthology movie has been repeatedly shown at film festivals since late 2007, but never had a theatrical release. It will be presented in 2.39:1 VC-1 1080p video and 5.1 Dolby Digital audio, and will include a Digital Copy.

Special features include:

* Commentary with director Michael Dougherty

* Additional scenes

* Special effects comparison

* "Trick 'r Treat: Season's Greetings" animated short film by Michael Dougherty, with optional commentary

* "Trick 'r Treat: The Lore and Legends of Halloween" featurette

* BD-Live

All special features except "Season's Greetings" are BD-exclusive."

I'm hoping the Dolby Digital thing is a mistake - but I'm still looking forward to this one. Here's the front cover art:

I've seen the trailer to this and was really looking forward to seeing it in the theaters. Does anyone know why it didn't get released? What were the responses in the festivals? With as many bad horror movies that do make it to the local cinema, one would think this would have to be really bad not to see the light of day theatrically? Or too quirky for the standard horror audience?

Thank God! how long have we waited for this to come out! It is a shame that this got shelved for yet another SAW movie. As noted in my post this movie got shelved so as not to go head to head with SAW V, I believe. YAY for rehashes over fresh IP's... grumble grumble...

Rottentomatoes only lists four reviews, but all are positive:

I've seen a few more that were really complimentary, too:

The festival response has been tremendous and every review I've read has been positive. I read that the studio was squeamish about a kid related death in the film. The main strike against the film is that anthology horror films haven't done well at the box office and WB didn't want to go up against a Saw sequel on Halloween, so the release date was moved around until they finally decided to just release it on home video.

Interesting. Thanks for everyone's feedback. This sounds like a fun movie to show for a group in October...esp. since NO one will have seen it before.

That is exactly my plan. It'll be a double bill of Trick 'R Treat, and Night of the Creeps, as long as the Amazon pre-orders come through. The listings are finally up:

Trick 'R Treat

Night of the Creeps

FYI... Mike Dougherty (writer & director) based Trick 'r Treat off of his cartoon short called "Seasons Greetings". Actually, Trick 'r Treat was inspired by Seasons Greetings.

This little short is great!!! Everyone needs to check it out. Hopefully, they'll include it on the Blu-ray & DVD release.

Whatever the price, this movie is a must buy for me!!!

If anyone gets a hold of this blu-ray before it streets, please post a picture of the back cover. I'm hoping to see Dolby TrueHD! Thanks.

It'll be what's on the disc that matters. Warner has had misprints before (Pushing Daisies S1).

Has anyone seen a review for this title? Amazon shipped my Snow White out yesterday, but Trick 'R Treat has yet to even move to "shipping soon" status. Hope there's no delay.

There shouldn't be a delay. They just showed a commercial for T r T on SyFy and said in stores October 6. I was going to order from amazon, but I have a gift card at BB so I'm going to see if they'll price match amazon.

This seems to be more of an Amazon thing than anything else. I put my pre-order in a month ago, with two day shipping, and it has an estimated arrival of the 8th. A note on the item page says "Want to receive this the day it comes out?

Order it in the next 42 hours and 47 minutes, and choose Two-Day Shipping at checkout. "
I'll probably cancel and get it from BB.
