I own a Sony 34XBR960 CRT and a Pioneer Kuro 5080HD Plasma and hands down would have to choose Plasma as the better viewing experience- Its a lot brighter, has amazing black levels,a higher ANSI Contrast ratio, it's also free of any geometry / convergence / corner to corner focus variations, Pure Cinema mode makes camera pans smoother than even the CRT with bluray / dvd etc. combine that with the considerably larger screen size and its a no brainer.

I think a Sony 34XBR 960 is better than anything else.

I think the Sony 55-inch XBR8 is the best LCD.

agreed totally with you. The XBR8 is pretty awesome. Heard that there is no excuse to go to the theater anymore with the XBR8. I'll take the XBR8 any day. But compared to a new Sony Bravia KDL-52W4100 for $2000 and a new Sony FD Trinitron Wega KD-34XBR960 for $2000, id still take the Trinitron.

I cast my vote for projector. Bigger is better after all and digital projectors these days can put out a damn fine picture, the higher end Optoma DLP's come to mind. Plus you always have CRT projection and it's hard to argue with the immaculate image even a low end Barco can throw. I'd actually rank plasma in front of CRT now. Was always big on CRTs for black levels, shadow detail, and color reproduction but after seeing the Pioneer Kuro's in action I'd say CRTs have met their match.

So far the best picture I have looked at that did not cause eyestrain was a 32” Sony flat crt HDTV. This was at Best Buy about 2 years ago. Not sure if that Sony flat crt still qualifies as a Trinitron if I understand correctly the original Trinitron was flat vertically and curved horizontally.

I can not watch LCD TVs. To my eyes the LCD picture appears to be made up of different layers for each color giving a blurry 3D effect. Even watching the best 1080P demo set up the LED picture still looks blurred to me.

I agree with Ron, most LCDs just look blurry, even those with 120hz engines. But a modern plasma bests so many of the best aspects of our CRTs while also having pixel per pixel rendering (no overscan!), perfect geometry, and great burn in protection. If I had an endless budget, I would get a large plasma, and a huge projector. Plasmas are the best all around, but a really good projector will give you a much better movie experience, not necessarily because the image will be better, but because of the size, nothing bests size for sucking you into the scene.
