Trying to build new setup... Need some help

965 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Nuance
Hey, i am pretty new at BUYING new systems, but i have had a roommate that always has really nice speakers. Now that we both have houses i need to get my own system... its not so much of a competition but i hate that he has better speakers than me.. soo... I have been looking at the x-mtm encore, x-static, and then the rockets... I can't just go into a store and listen to them so im not for sure how well they sound. Just looking for some ideas doesn't have to be these that i have been looking at if there are some better ones... OH and my friend has the B&W 600 series...

If you are interested in av123's products, best bet is you head over to their website and request for an audition. 2ndly, Mark already announce that anyone not satisfied with any of their products will get their full refund within the trial period. For their price range, it's hard to beat.
siarraangel - what is your budget? How big is your room? Will this system be mainly for HT, music or both?
I will be using this for both, i really want to have a setup that has really crisp highs for the music.... but the main thing i will be using these for is HT... The room is fairly large its a living room that flows into the dinning area and then into the kitchen and the celings are vaulted.... i would say the actual size of the room is 20x18... im not going to say i dont' have a budget becuase i know you can get up into 10k for a pair of speakers... but id figure anywhere between 2-5k... obviously i'd like bang for the buck so if something is going for 2 and there are some for 5 but they arn't that big of a jump then there is no reason.... i hope this helps and thanks for the help thus far
Bear in mind that whatever you get the room will be the deciding factor in how it sounds. You MUST treat your room, though that sounds like a hard one to treat but you must try or whatever you get will sound like crap.

Personally for crisp highs I would say try to hear the REVEL performa line of speakers. and don't overlook the used market, might be able to get more bang for your buck there.

Also you don't say if you are trying to so a 2.1, 5.1 or 7.1 system or what.
probably go for the 5.1.... yeah the room is really hard to judge, but i can't continue to bring in speakers and see how they work and if they sound good... so i just keep reading reviews and looking at what speakers are good for certain environments...

Auditioning them in your room is the ideal way to find out what you want. but at the least you must listen to them somewhere. Reading reviews is marginally helpful at best AND you must remember there is often advertising in the same place as the REVIEW.

Advice from people here is what THEY like which may not be what you like at all.

and in the end what any speaker sounds like to you is what matters.
