Tubes, Tubes, Tubes!

Once in a while I see decent condition tubes being auctioned on Ebay and, occasionally, I get the idea that it might be a good thing to acquire them now at a much lower-than-retail price even though I don't own the projector they fit because someday I might want that projector and I might be able to get it much cheaper because its tubes are toasted, but I'll have the tubes to bring it up to snuff. Such crazy thoughts run through my mind.

The downside is that sometimes the seller doesn't know what projector his tubes fit. Is there a reference out there that matches tubes with projectors, or is this something that people just know because they've worked on lot of projectors? Somehow, I believe it's the latter. If it is the latter, it would be nice if those-who-know start listing what tube(s) go with which pj, at least, the popular projectors from Barco, Electrohome, Sony and NEC.

Those 9" tubes are a short neck tube, air coupled version of quite an expensive sony tube......I was thinking the same.........don't fit anything I know of....

I have no particular tube in mind - I don't know which tubes you are referring to. I am asking about tubes in general that fit into the popular projectors.
I'd say Dan's referring to the MEX(2) tubes on the Bay. Reportedly fit a 1292?

That would be a nice aditoon to Curt's site. A while ago he was asking what he could do to improve the site. A cross chart table indicating original tubes, standard replacements and modded "possible" replacements.
Sorry......I was doing a 'pre-emptive strike'......I do generally jump to conclusions.
