Hello!

I bought a Pioneer 1121K receiver and it has great upscaler built in. (Whichever source to 1080P).

I also have the Sony bluesy player BX-59 that upscaled regular DVD to 1080P.

I would like to use my Pioneer receiver to upscale my DVDs. Is there a way to turn off the bluray players upscale or does it automatically use the recievers upscaled once connected to the receiver?

Currently I just have the bluray player connected straight to the tv because I haven't got my receiver delivered yet.

Thanks in advance!

On all players, this is determined by the video output resolution.

What are the output resolution options on the player?

If it has 480i, when set to that the receiver will both deinterlace and scale DVDs.

If it has 480p, the player is deinterlacing and the receiver is scaling DVDs.

If set to 1080p, the player is both deinterlacing and scaling DVDs.

For Blu-rays you will want nothing but 1080p.

If the player has a Source Direct option, it will adaptively send 480i for DVDs and 1080p for Blu-rays, which is the right thing if don't want the player to do the processing for DVDs.

If it does not have Source Direct, you will need to manually change the output resolution when switching between DVD and Blu-ray.

DO NOT leave the player at 480i/p when playing Blu-ray or you will lose the high def goodness of that format.

So do I have to switch the output on my blueray players setting to "Original" or 480i?

Your saying change it to "original" on output while another member is saying change it to 480i inorder for the bluray player to let the receiver do the upscaling.
