TV Authority Powerbuy feedback

Hey folks,

Just wanted to get expert opinions. I'm thinking of buying a sammy DLP from TVAuthority. How good are they? How good is their 5 star program?

Did anyone had problems with their TV and how did TVA handle it? Does the 5 star program cover the bulb?


Other useful tips will be highly appreciated.

I just purchased a Samsung 5085 from TV Authority. Good pricing and Jason

was great to deal with. After the nightmare of purchasing my Def Tec's at

Magolia's, I came home and ordered a Harmon 430 receiver from Jason.

Another pleasureful experience.

I am also planning on buying the Def tec speakers from magnolia .. can you elaborate on what probelms you had. Is it the speakers or the staff that made your experience bad?

I bought a Sammy Hlp-5063w a couple of months ago from TVA during the Powerbuy.


Overall, I'm very pleased. It's very hard to beat their price.


I wish the shipping had been a little faster but now that the HLP rush is over, I imagine the entire process is faster.


This was my first lg Tv purchase and, I would do business with TVA again.
Service question


Has anyone had service during the first year...by Samsung or 3rd party?


Then what...who does the service during 5 star coverage?


Seems to me that you need an experienced tech with light engines, calibration gear and who knows what parts to have a chance to repair problems satisfactorily.

You would call Samsung during the first year. If you buy an extended warranty then you would call that company. The actual work would be done by a contract service company. During the first year, if you live where it's available, you might get service from Samsung employees.


The "5 Star" program wasn't a service plan the last time I looked.


None of them will do calibration. For that you would need to hire an ISF certified calibrator in your area.

Re Service contract


I was referring to the TV authority extended warranty for years 2 thru 5.


Who does the service? 3rd party or Samsung? My concern is that I will be relying on an unknown service company to do the work.


My initial buy will be a HLP 4674 (only DLP to fit my cabinet) for Austin.


In the spring I will buy 50inch DLP or DILA for a rural location in Colorado where getting a qualified service organization is much more difficult.

Hello Gracious,

The Def Tec's are great, it was Magnolias's staff that was incompetent.

Just not used to dealing with mass retailers. Sat for 25 minutes until someone finally figured how to ring up the whopping $80.00 discount sale price.

Make sure you set your system to large (speaker setting) and split the sub

out and use the sub input on the speakers. Made a big difference.

A third party referred to you by the extended warranty company will do the work but your contact will not be Samsung.

That can be very difficult no matter where you buy the TV. In-home service usually has an escape clause if you are located too far from the nearest contract service center.
