What I want -- to add a video or tv card to my fairly ordinary PC setup to capture TV from my cable line to watch on my new ipod

(I already have a Comcast dvr and it suits my needs for recording and playback to my tv -- don't expect to use this card for playback except on computer and on my ipod)

Recommendations? I have looked at cnet and they tout the Radeon cards, but there is much discussion about the bundled software being unusable. Some comments indicate you can use other dvr software (Beyond TV, for example) to handle the recording aspects.

Thanks for your thoughts.

vbjd1111,

I've had a Hauppauge capture card, under Windows Media Center 2005, and have been happy with that. Make sure your card you choose has good driver support and is compatible with your OS and recording software. I recently demo'd SageTV DVR/media center software and it has come a long way.

Just don't fall into a trap of choosing some no-name capture card at Frys or someplace like that just because it's 19.99 and expect smooth results.
