I've written in this forum numerous times trying to find an all-in-one audio/video front-end for my new Infrant NV+. Doesn't seem like the right one is really out there just yet, so I'm looking at a 2-box solution and I've become intrigued with the TViX.

I know the 4000 is the latest and greatest and I guess the big feature over the previous model (which I assume is the 3100?) is HD? So what does that mean exactly...that it will stream HD content, like HD DVD and Blu-Ray, or that it will upconvert your DVD files to HD (720p or 1080i)? I ask because I'm wondering if I should just "wade in" with the less expensive 3100 model, because I do not need to be able to stream HD content yet (although upconverting, like I do with my current disc player, would be nice).

Thanks,

CD

The precursor to the 4000 is actually the 5000, another High Definition unit. The 5000 is a more expensive unit, in particular because there is a HD Tuner option planned for some future release (presumably with some HD recording features incorporated in the player firmware). Some also like the looks of the 5000 remote. On general specs, the 4000 seems near identical to the 5000, right down to the processor and the firmware, with a more appealing form factor to my eye.

Principal difference between the 3100 and the 4000, and this is based solely on book learnin' from their FAQs, is the High Definition output. The 4000 has 1080p output. Not sure about the max resolution on the 3100, but it only has analog outputs and probably isn't more than 480p-- I'm sure someone will correct me.

In Tvix 4000 there is connections for USB Host and LAN (Wired). So there is no need to disconnect the unit to transfer files.

With the USB host is it possible to connect USB memory or USB HD.

On LAN connection is it possible to transfer file with FTP. It's Also possible to stream music and movie from the PC

I don't know if you are hoping for a different answer by posting this to every thread, but the answer is still no. I don't know about x264, but the first of these devices to support h.264 were previewed at CES2007 last week-- go check that thread.
