I tend to buy a tvone CSC1600HD scaler to upconvert DVD component signal to feed my CRT HDTV set which could display 1920x1080i.

How is the performance of CSC1600HD in this regards? Can I expect the same picture quality as the normal HDTV?

Is Cypress CSC1600HD same as tvone CSC1600HD?

DVD at 1080i can't compete with true HDTV 1080i. DVD 1080i is clearly better than 480p or 480i.

TVone makes decent scalers (I own their cheaper ($400) AVT-3700 for my NEC LT150 XGA DLP and I like mine). CRT owners did not like my unit for their CRT. Your unit is higher price and should be better quality. Other units in this price range include Focus Enhancement Centerstage-HD and Lumagen Vision ($1K).

CS-HD has DVI and has Sil504 (Silicon Image's newest processor--same as Iscan DVDo Ultra--plus great scaling). It accepts 480p too so your progressive DVD player can still be scaled up to the best resolution your display can handle. I personally favor this unit over an unknown scaler like the CSC1600HD. However, if you don't try new scalers, then we won't know how good it is. Let us know if you do try it. TVone has very good return policy (30d MBG for www.avtoolbox.com )
