Do there exist flat panel LCD HDTV's with preamplifiers built in? I would like to connect my TV to external speakers, but would like to cut out the preamp (for lack of space, not likeing extra remotes, etc...).
Most TVs have a preamp (low level audio) output to go to an external amp and speakers. What you want is a TV with external speaker connections. You'd have to check the TV specs to see if any offer that.
If you can find a TV with line level outs where the audio level out these jacks can be controlled by the TV remote you could just buy a simple, small two channel amplifier (with line level ins and speaker level outs).
Connect it up, turn it on, set the volume controls (if any) and leave it that way. Then the TV remote would still control the volume.
There are some amplifiers out there that will turn on as needed when they detect a signal at their inputs if you want to minimize power waste.
