TWC Houston 8300 Offset Image

I've got an SA 8300 from Time Warner Houston and I'm haveing an odd issue. When I have it set for 1080i the picture gets slightly zoomed and offset to the right. In Pillarbox the left band is 40% larger than the right. If I switch the display to widescreen 480i or 480p it displays just fine. I thought it was my tv until I bought a HD upconverting DVD and hooked it up to my HDMI and moved the 8300 to component. The DVD works flawlessly in 1080i and the 8300 does the same thing on component. I called time warner and they suggested I swap the box which I did, however this did not solve the problem. I got into the service menu of my system to try to fix the overscan but any attempts to unzoom it resulted in signifigant distortion on the edges.

Happen to have a Mitsubishi TV? Some of the x13 models had this problem. I think firmware fixed it.
No such luck, it is an RCA Scenium. Anyway wouldn't the 1080i input from my DVD player do the same thing? The DVD works flawlessly.

If it is firmware on the TV how do you upgrade it?
I get a similar effect on my Mits. with my 8300 on SD 480i material. I have received a beta software rev. for the 8300 and can't make it do it now.

How did you get the beta software from Time Warner? Everytime I call them I get a "tech support" person who sounds like they ate lead paint chips as a child :)
ShadeD1,

I've been piling up brownie points as fast as I could for 5 years now and it has paid off. I'm told I'm the only customer with this version and from the trouble it's giving me that's a good thing for you. I can say that I've benefited from some of the patch content like able to start from beginning on shows being recorded so no rewind required, no kick out aat end of recording. I've also had the 8300 crash three times within minutes when circumstances were just right.

Beta is definately a good news/bad news process.

PS when you are experiencing problems, spend a little time to collect information about what's going on, what channels are affected, time of day if the symptoms vary, what connections are made in the cable distribution, where are the splitters, etc. If the CSR isn't helping with your problem, be nice, but ask for a suprvisor. The folks I talk to want to help, but they want to fix the CSR system too so it works for everybody.
