I currently own a Pioneer Elite VSX-45 ( see specs ) and am considering an upgrade to the Onkyo TX-NR906. My question is, will an external amp really be necessary for either situation?

Here's the scenario: I would like to get the Emotiva UPA-7 amp (7ch x 125wpc). I know this will already crank up my current system with my Elite which is 7 x 100wpc, but will there be a place for this amp when I get the Onkyo? The Onkyo will have the ginormous toroidal power supply and 145wpc already, so what would be the value-add for the amp?

Also, my center channel is rated for a peak of 120wpc, and rear surround back channels are 130wpc. Should these be upgraded in either case to support with the amp, or the upcoming Onkyo?
