I just bought a new sub and I'm considering keeping the old one and hooking up both.

Is this a good idea and if so how do I connect them?

yeah.. that's not unusual to have 2 subs..

the easiest way is to have an RCA splitter from your a/v receiver. and connect an rca plug at each sub..

there's a few things you can do with this setup.

1... is to have a sub take care of the higher frequencies.. and have the second sub crossover at a much lower fequency taking care of only the really low ones.

2 is to have them set at both the same frequencies.. and set the bass level volume down a bit. this keeps each sub from over getting too much stress. resulting in a much much cleaner bass.
